2018 Rolls Royce Phantom

Reviewing The 2018 Rolls Royce Phantom

Since 1925, there have only been seven editions of the famed Phantom, a motorcar that stands without peer at the pinnacle of the luxury vehicle world. The 2018 Rolls-Royce Phantom marks the eighth, and anticipation over the updates and changes is growing. Let’s satisfy your curiosity and introduce you to the new generation.

The new Phantom is described by the company as having taken a “two-generation leap.” The model that it was replacing, after all, was almost 14 years old which. For most brands, this would be an unfathomable gap. With Rolls-Royce, it’s to be expected. It takes time and thought to improve upon perfection!

This iteration features a new aluminum intensive endoskeleton, which makes is much lighter and almost 30 percent more rigid than the previous incarnations of the vehicle. The springs on the Phantom are larger thanks to the new adaptive self-leveling air suspension. This makes the ride much smoother – we’d have thought it impossible! – thanks, in part, to the sensor in the windscreen that proactively reacts to the road conditions (up to 62 MPH) to deliver the hallmark magic carpet ride.

The 6.75 liter twin-turbo V-12 hums quietly but its silence belies monstrous power. The Phantom boasts 563 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque – a significant bump up from the previous version. The raw muscle is perfectly harnessed by the brand’s relentlessly precise engineering.

The Phantom has traditionally been designed from the rear forward; meaning that owners are likely to enjoy its charms from the rear passenger compartment. This isn’t really changed in the 2018 edition, but Rolls-Royce did incorporate more dynamic driver-oriented features should the urge to take the wheel prove insurmountable. Still, with all the “extras” the brand lavishes on the passenger space – from integrated display screens and power picnic tables to lush carpeting and customized comfort – the temptation to sit back and relax can be equally strong.
