2016 Rolls Royce Dawn

The pursuit of perfection is never ending. Whenever premier brands like Rolls Royce feel they have reached the pinnacle of power, performance, and luxury, they know that it is time to roll their sleeves up and get to work. They must push themselves to create vehicles that push the limits even further. This obsessive pursuit of perfection is how the 2016 Rolls Royce Dawn came to fruition.

Meet the Man Behind The Motor Car

Dave Monks, head of testing for Rolls Royce Motor Cars, is “the man responsible for bringing Dawn to life.” Not an easy feat, to make the Dawn rise. Monks was fueled by passion, insight, and sheer will. And, perhaps, more than a few cups of coffee.

Monks’ goal was to design a vehicle that, when handed off to the expert craftspeople, was “impossible to build incorrectly.” Each element had to be flawless. Each component had to work in perfect concert with all others. In the end, there could be no mistakes. Which means that during the process, there was relentless questioning, scrutiny, testing, redesigning, questioning, scrutiny, testing… Until it was as close to perfect as an automobile can be.

The Dawn team used CAD, or computer aided drawing, to design the Dawn and to troubleshoot production issues. From there, they built a “lab car” that enabled them to test electrical systems, equipment, components, and parts. When all the kinks were worked out of the model, they moved on to a full sized car. Crafted from an aluminum, this model allowed them to test the body panels.
Finally, when every component looked, felt, and worked like a Rolls Royce ought to, they commenced production. You can see the result of Monks’ hard work and commitment at your local Rolls Royce dealer. The Dawn, as with all of the iconic brand’s models, is the result of the relentless quest for perfection. See how close it for yourself.
