Rolls-Royce Wraith Coupe Detailed Review

It was centuries ago when America won her independence from Great Britain and, at the time, it seemed as though the country was going to cut off all ties with her motherland. Slowly but surely, however, reason prevailed. Since then, British exports have become more and more popular, making their way back into the country and being celebrated for their existence. British actors, singers, stylists, celebrities and even magicians are now household names in the United States. But one thing that has been celebrated and revered in the United States for a very long time is the Rolls Royce.

Does anything get more British than the Rolls Royce? Aside from the monarchy, it’s difficult to imagine anything that represents the best that Britain has to offer. This luxury vehicle comes with a hefty price tag, but owners of this vehicle, no matter which Rolls Royce they have gracing their garage, all agree that the price is more than worth the quality you receive.

All In the Name
The Rolls-Royce Wraith Coupe is a shining example of the quality, aesthetics, and engineering that Britain brings to the auto world. The Wraith name is derived from the 1930s, and the moniker is truly apt. Then, all purchasers would receive was the running chassis – a ghost of a car. Independent coachbuilders would supply all that the individual needed to have the Wraith built, such as the body and other parts, but the vehicle was definitely created to the owner’s unique tastes. Mass appeal has never been part of the Rolls Royce heritage.

Now, however, as an RR Wraith dealer will tell you, owners no longer get just a chassis and a bill. Now they drive  away in one of the most luxurious, carefully designed vehicles to ever exist.

As classically British as the Wraith is, it does seamlessly incorporate elements from its parent company, German BMW. And, observant auto aficionados will notice some Italian influence. The fastback roofline (i.e. a roof that slopes continuously down towards the back) is evocative of the original Maserati Ghibli. Rolls Royce integrates the best that the design and engineering worlds have to offer.

Feeling the Power
It’s important to note that the Wraith is not a sports car. So what is it then? It’s high quality, high class vehicle that has far more power than the average owner will ever need – but will love to have. At 17 feet long, the Wraith doesn’t have a typical “sports” body, but any vehicle that can hit 60 mph in 4.3 seconds is a car made for serious drivers, whether it’s classified as a sports car or not.

The Rolls-Royce Wraith Coupe has an 8 speed automatic transmission, a 624 horsepower twin turbocharged V-12 engine. Here’s another area in which the name Wraith is apropos: the car is remarkably quiet and glides along the road.

The Wraith’s transmission shifts smoothly and seamlessly while the wider wheel base gives you a great deal of stability for those winding roads. The blunt nose of the vehicle is something to get used to, especially if you’ve never driven anything like it before (and most of us haven’t). Once you slip behind the wheel or relax in the passenger compartment, you will realize exactly how comfortable and smooth of a ride this Rolls Royce provides.

Comfort on the Inside
Traditional sports cars are designed to be light and fast; this often necessitates sacrificing a bit of comfort for speed. The Rolls-Royce Wraith coupe, however, is luxury from the inside out. The plush interior features buttery leather and wood veneers.

The steering wheel is rather large, which is par for the course when it comes to Rolls Royce. If you are unaccustomed to the size, it can take some getting used to. Once you have the experience, though, you may find that every other steering wheel you use is too small as the larger version provides better, faster handling.

The driver’s seat and the passenger’s seat offer exquisite comfort, with enough legroom and height to accommodate drivers of all sizes. There is room in the back of the car for two passengers, and they sit in as much comfort and style as the driver and front passenger do. The rear hinged doors, known affectionately in the industry as “suicide doors”, make it much easier for passengers to climb into the back of the two-door car than traditional doors do.

Is It Worth the Cost?
When you visit an RR Wraith dealer, you will see why Rolls Royce is regarded as one of the premier manufacturers in the world. With an interior that makes you feel like royalty to an exterior with attention-grabbing lines, the Wraith is designed exclusively for those who demand the best.

When searching for your Rolls-Royce Wraith Coupe, demand the same excellence from your dealer as you do from your vehicle. Seek recommendations from friends and colleagues; read online reviews and ratings. When you select the right dealer, your world class Rolls Royce experience begins the second you step into the showroom.
