Rolls-Royce Phantom Family

Rolls-Royce makes beautiful cars that are recognizable no matter where they go. From the glistening exterior to the sumptuous interior, a Rolls-Royce is the epitome of luxury. When the Rolls-Royce company created the Phantom, no one could predict how long it would last or how many iterations it might go through.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom Family Beginnings

The Phantom family began in 1925 when the first Rolls-Royce Phantom was created. It lasted for several years before Rolls-Royce finally decided it was time to give it a change to reflect the moving times and their ideas for new designs. In 1929, the Phantom II was released, this time with 20/25 hp.

A lot of time would go by with this Phantom before Rolls-Royce discovered new innovations, better technology, and different ideas. They released the Phantom III in 1936, this time with a V12 engine that could get 25/30 hp. This Phantom creation lasted until 1939, though ultimately it was the only V12 Rolls-Royce until 1998.

Post World War II Phantoms

World War II got in the way of many lives, including people who loved Rolls-Royce. In fact, the last Phantom III was made in 1941, despite production stopping in 1939, but this Phantom did not reach its owner until well after the war in 1947. When the Phantom IV came out in 1950, it was the most exclusive Phantom made. Only 18 total were ever made, only 17 of which were actually sold.

The Phantom V was produced from 1959 to 1968 and utilized a V8 engine. The Phantom VI emerged in 1968 and lasted longer than any of its predecessors, with production halting in 1991. This was the very car that was used by Queen Elizabeth II until 2002. Then once again Phantoms disappeared.

It wasn’t until 2003 that the Phantom made its return, with subsequent additions to the Phantom family in 2007 with the Phantom Drophead Coupe and in 2008 with the Phantom Coupe. If you are looking for a bit of extra room in the back seat, look to the Phantom Extended Wheelbase. There is no telling when Rolls-Royce may decide to stop production on this iconic vehicle once again.
