RR Phantom Car Becomes Rankin’s Muse

Luxury vehicles are undoubtedly works of art. It’s not surprising, then, that British photographer Rankin became inspired by the RR Phantom car. It’s not the first time that the Rolls-Royce Phantom has caught the eye of an artist: Salvador Dali filled one of the Phantoms with 500 kilograms of cauliflower – experiential art, if you will! Beatles front man John Lennon was also inspired by the Rolls-Royce Phantom and used it for a psychedelic mirage. A Phantom was even turned into a mobile recording studio by Skepta.

For this project, however, Rankin not only had a vision, he had a purpose. He wanted to show younger drivers what, exactly, the Phantom could do. He wanted to promote the style and substance you get when you buy a RR Phantom car, and in order to do that he used actress Gwendoline Christie. Christie is known for being Lady Brienne of Tarth on the insanely popular Game of Thrones series. She also was the lead of Titania in ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ performed by the London Bridge Theater company.

It was Rankin’s vision to use the amazing actress, and the beauty of the vehicle, to challenge any preconceived notions that people may have about what demographic actually owns a Rolls-Royce Phantom.

The truth is that the newest generation of Rolls-Royce owners are self-made young business owners who are extremely successful and who enjoy individuality. Rankin said, “In my film with Gwen, I wanted to express this one-of-a-kind sensation. I wanted everyone to know exactly why Rolls-Royce are the best of the best and why Phantom is the icon. Everyone should try it.”

Brilliant! Rankin captures the exclusivity of the vehicle – for a whole new inclusive audience.
