On top of every Rolls-Royce car is a hood ornament. A very specific, distinctive one. It is a woman with a unique garb that flows out around her as she moves forward, almost as though she has wings. It’s an iconic symbol found on all Rolls-Royce cars for sale across the globe. But why this symbol? And what is its origin?

As you shop Rolls Royce cars in Florida, you can take a much closer look at this little statue, known as the Spirit of Ecstasy. You’ll find some that are stainless steel, others that cast in 24-carat gold, some made of frosted crystal, and still others that are studded with diamonds. With the Rolls-Royce Bespoke program, who knows what you might come up with?

The Spirit of Ecstasy has its beginnings in 1905 and was, in a way, the first kind of Bespoke element. Lord Montagu wanted a way to distinguish his Rolls-Royce from others, so he commissioned the sculptor Charles Sykes who created The Whisper. The small sculpture is of a woman standing on one foot as he gown flows out behind her, with one finger to her lips as if she has something she is keeping all to herself.

Rolls-Royce heard about this concept and asked him to create a symbol that would adorn all Rolls Royce cars from then on. They wanted something vivacious and graceful – which is exactly what they received. Skyes called his creation, “A graceful little goddess, the Spirit of Ecstasy.”

You’ll find her on Rolls Royce cars in Florida and in fact, on every one of these luxury vehicles. Rolls-Royce is very proud of this simple yet beautiful statue that embodies everything that the brand stands for.
