Rolls-Royce has announced the commencement of on-road testing of their first-ever fully electric vehicle. The all-electric Spectre is the start of great things to come for the company. Torsten Muller-Otvos, the company’s CEO, has revealed in an interview that Rolls-Royce going electric is still the plan by the end of 2030.

No More V12

It is both an exciting time and one of sadness as the end is drawing for the popular V12 engine. The CEO stated that by the end of 2030, the V12 would no longer be in production, with the brand-new Rolls-Royces being exclusively electric. However, Rolls-Royce is committed to the V12 for the next few years and will remain in the heart of models such as the Ghost, Phantom, and Cullinan.

Spectre: Rolls-Royce Going Electric

Rolls-Royce will deliver the first Spectre in the last quarter of this year. It is regarded as the most important Rolls-Royce since the brand launched the 10hp in 1904. Spectre is a revelation of how perfect the electric platform is for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, and it is the first step in its electric future. The Spectre is showing early signs of becoming a hit.

No Hybrids

The automaker’s executive has reconfirmed that the brand will not produce hybrids but will transition directly from internal combustion to all-electric powertrains. The approach differs from the brand’s rivals, such as Bentley, which started selling its Bentayga SUV hybrid version in 2019.

The Bottom Line

Rolls-Royce has confirmed its plans to produce only electric cars by 2030. The first step is a successful roll-out of the Spectre, the brand’s first fully electric-powered car. 2030 will be the end of the popular engines under the long hood of every current Rolls-Royce, but as we know, these cars tend to stick around for decades as collectibles.
